We All, Us Three at ESL Projects, March 2006
Ojo's first project, We All, Us Three, occured at Esthetics as a Second Language in Eagle Rock, CA. Ojo was invited to create a one night event that would reach out to the local community in some way. Our resolution to this problem, which was also our natural inclination, was to create a piece of music that would be made by the audience, under the guidance of Ojo, while retaining improvisational space for the group to fill in. The score for this work involved the audience clapping, chanting, stomping in the bed of salt laid on the floor while circling a stack of amps in the middle of the space. The 808 also propelled the performance along. Projected on the interior of the space was a video of a cave and slide projections of swathes of color mimicking the circular aspect of the cave and dance of the audience around the amps. The performance lasted for about 26 minutes and then was followed by a piece of music made just by Ojo. Eamon played 808. Josh played a synthesizer. Justin played acoustic guitar and Moi guested on trumpet. The 26 minute audience particpatory piece of music was released on cd in the summer of 2006 and featured the entire performance, a remix by ESL's Nate Harrison and a list of everyone who particpated in the project. The cd was produced by James Welling. Click HERE to view the cd.
